SANTORINI: HOTEL ADVICE AND GENERAL INFORMATION
- Santorini Web has attempted to simplify as much as possible the process of choosing a holiday home. Santorini offers all types of accommodation : hotels, villas, apartments, cave houses, studios and rooms.
- The cardinal rule is deciding what kind of holiday you wish to have & then combine that with your budget.
The Caldera
- When looking at our map remember that the west coast of the island is CALDERA SIDE.
- That means you are right above the volcano - the cliff side which has a massive drop into the sea.
- So any area on this side and located on the cliff is called caldera. It could be caldera in Oia (Ia), caldera in Firostefani, Imerovigli, Akrotiri, Megalochori at certain points or in the main town of Fira.
- Caldera accommodation (volcano view) is structured in tiers (levels) and many are smallish units due to building difficulties, building permissions and the islands' desire to preserve its original look and charm.
- Most offer swimming pools.
- The lower properties can only be reached by a considerable amount of steps.
- Properties on Caldera side are usually more expensive due to the multiply cost of bulding and to very expensive running cost.
