Many historical reports
confirm that the tomb of Homer is in Ios, also home of Homer’s
mother, Klymeni. According to Herodotus, Homer was buried in
Plakotos in the northern part of the island. |
Ios island was also used as a retreat
by the poet Odysseas Elytis in the Tsoukalaria region. A theatre
in his name stands there today. |
Maganari beach – scenes from
the film ‘Big Blue’ were filmed here. Mylopotas
is also very beautiful. Other beaches are Psathi, Agia Theodoti,
Tzamaria, Kalamos, Three Churches, Plakotos and Valmas. |
