'Vanishing Santorini' : Exhibition |
A Look into Santorini's Past |
'Vanishing Santorini' in Pyrgos village is a re-enactment of a traditional Santorinian
village. Housed in an old Canava cave house, the exhibition portrays the daily life of Santorini island inhabitants
as it was in the past. Some practices continue till the present day.
The exhibition includes photographic material as well as life size traditionally clothed figures portrayed
in typical scenes as they go about their daily life. |
A Small Insight : Harvesting the Grapes |
Harvesting the grapes was the highlight of the economic and social life on the island.
Everything was arranged to follow the harvest: engagements, weddings and even debt payments. The people who treaded
the grapes then carried the must to the barrels in wooden vats. The time of grape treading was a festival and
a celebration. Violinists use to played a harvest 'vedema' melody and island folk songs.
Journey into Santorini's past by visiting this wonderful depictment of a traditional village. |
